Better Together… Snapdragon Parties

VENUE: COUNTRY WEDDING

PHOTOGRAPHERS: PIPPA & JOE

Next up in our Better Together showcase is the one and only Snapdragon Parties.  Headed up by incredible Julia Dowling, you can guarantee that a Snapdragon event is of the highest quality filled with impeccable detail. We have worked with Julia on a number of events, but I think my favourite has to be Lucy & Max’s wedding which took place this Summer.

It’s difficult to find the words to describe their day… Think quintessential English Old Rectory family house set in the rich green Kent countryside, beautiful rustic elegance, the smell of rosemary, Ritva Westenius dress, old time sounds of The Thumping Tommys, and a mass of stunning flowers at every turn. Their ceremony took place in the Rose Garden, – designed by Lucy’s late Grandmother Syliva in the 1960’s. It was incredibly pretty, personal and very very romantic.

As the sun went down, the energy changed and the partying really began! The Atlantic Soul Orchestra played well into the night to a heaving dancefloor. A cocktail bar set in a twinkling woodland served cocktails concocted specifically to Lucy & Max’s tastes, and there was even an Indian takeaway.

The day was magical from beginning to end. A big thank you to Joe for shooting with me. A star as always and so much fun to work with.

The day was also captured on Super 8 film by the fantastic Mark Brown. Take a look at his work…he’s fantastic.

So, back to Julia at Snapdragon Parties…. I caught up with her to ask her a few questions on what makes Snapdragon one of the UK’s leading luxury event planners.

Julia, what makes Snapdragon different from other event and party planners?

Our people and our approach.  We recruit people with broad experience from other sectors and we have our own in-house creative designers, we don’t take commission or mark up costs (very unusual in this industry) and we plan and deliver events with military precision.

What was your brief for Lucy & Max’s wedding?

To bring the brides eclectic period style to life, without being whimsical, in the expansive gardens of her family home

What challenges did you face along the way?

Helping the client distil a huge collection of ideas into a single coherent plan that could be delivered on budget.

What is the secret to planning a great event?

Planning the guest experience carefully, envisioning something that is truly unique and then being commercially savvy enough to deliver it, so that you don’t bust the client’s budget.

What is your one most memorable moment of any event you have planned?

At every event, it’s watching my client and their guests’ faces when they see the spectacle unfold.   Sometimes, I even surprise myself; we recently transformed a derelict factory in Greece into a stunning wedding venue.  When the music and fireworks floated across the cliffs, it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Joe and I absolutely loved documenting Lucy & Max’s wedding. Here are some of our favourite photos…
