SOPHIE & LYNDON
DESTINATION: THE SERENGETI
PHOTOGRAPHERS: PIPPA & STEVEN
For Pippa, having spent five years travelling around the world as a documentary TV Producer and photographer for Discovery Channel, Sophie and Lyndon’s wedding was a dream assignment for her. With a brief that incorporated travel, adventure, wildlife, culture..and the most romantic wedding, Pippa was in her element!
The adventure began with a private plane from London, flying Pippa and Steven and all the 120 guests over to Kilimanjaro, then hopper planes and a 4×4 convoy transporting everyone to The Four Seasons Hotel in The Serengeti National Park – home for the next four days.
Early morning safaris, chilling in the infinity pool overlooking a wild elephants watering hole, sundowners in the national park serenaded by majestic dancing of the Masai Warriors and the distant roar of hyenas and lions, an intimate candle-lit dinner…and that was even before the wedding itself!
So the wedding day! Wow, what can I say? Sophie and Lyndon’s outdoor ceremony was Incredibly romantic, blessed by Sophie’s uncle and overlooking the vast Serengeti landscape. It was simply breath-taking.
Meticulously planned and styled by Quintessentially Events, and the phenomenal Anna McGregor (I swear…there is NOTHING that phases this lady!), not even unseasonal thunder storms phased the day. Dinner followed and then the 1st dance…and oh my…another treat in store. “Stay” sung live by Mikky Ekko who attended as one of the guests. It was beautiful and simple, and skin tingling for everyone. DJ Philly then took to the floor and had everyone dancing well into the night in the only way she knows – with effortless style.
Guests spent the final day chilling by the pool whilst the immediate family enjoyed an intimate buffet lunch. The Masai Warriors came to say their goodbyes but not before seeing who could jump the highest…and then DJ Philly appeared as the sun went down with cool beats and cocktails. Mikky Ekko returned for one final and very special, intimate set with everyone gathering around the side of the pool as he sang, lit only by fairy lights. Even when the power cut out, he didn’t stop. It was the most perfect end to Sophie & Lyndon’s African Adventure.
I will never forget those four days. Ever. For the love, the beauty of our planet, the kindness of people, the awesomeness of being in the company of the Masai Warriors, and the gratitude I have, to have a job that enables us to document such incredibly special stories.
A big thank-you to Steven, one of our incredible associate photographers who joined me on the assignment.
Big thanks also go out to all the crew who made this possible. (Please see below). You were all amazing to work with! A true dream team.
