Ian’s curiosity in how things work started early, when at the age of three, he decided to take the wheels of his now unused pram. That was quickly followed by a shocking incident when he decided to insert a table knife into a live plug socket. Luckily the knife had a bone handle so Ian got away with just shorting out the entire house and a screaming mother.
That curiosity has driven Ian’s creative journey ever since and as well as a love of photography, he has always had a passion for architecture, fine art and the movies. His two favourite artists are David Hockney and Van Gough. Both artists, he discovered during his time at art college whilst on a trip to Amsterdam. Of course he has never met Van Gough but was surprised many years after, to literally bump into David Hockney in Copenhagen Airport. Ian says that he nearly knocked Mr. Hockneys ever-present flat cap flying across the floor.
Ian studied TV, film and photography at University and then pursued a career in TV and Film for a few years working as best boy and gaffer on a number of TV programmes, music videos and short films. During this time he also penned a number of movie scripts.
Following that came a long career as a graphic and multi-media designer. For many years he worked for Linklaters, one of the largest global law firms. During this time he headed up the in-house design team and travelled worldwide taking photographs for the firm’s marketing department.
Ian learnt to ski, later than most in his 30s, but is now addicted. He can’t wait for the day when daughter, Poppy, is old enough to join Pippa and himself on the slopes.
As well as the birth of his daughter, Poppy, Ian says his proudest moment was when he proposed via letter to Pippa whilst she was on a BA flight back from Indonesia. Of course she said yes.
